World-class safety with a focus on growth

Mips is perhaps best known for the small yellow dot found on helmets worldwide. The company specialises in helmet-based safety and is a global leader in protection against harmful rotational forces. Their patented safety system is built on more than 25 years of research and science. Mips' mission is to lead the world toward safer helmets.

It all started at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, where a neurosurgeon discovered that rotational forces in fall accidents were often the primary cause of brain injuries. This insight led to the development of the Mips safety system – the Multi-directional Impact Protection System – which is now used by over 150 helmet manufacturers and has been sold in more than 30 million units globally.

Since going public in 2017, Mips has grown rapidly, with employees in both Sweden and China. To sustain this growth, modern solutions were needed – particularly in HR.

Hailey – part of the growth strategy

When Helena Tönne joined Mips as Head of HR in the autumn of 2022, she was given a clear mission: to implement an HR system that supports the company’s growth journey.

“We have an ambitious growth plan, and to reach our goals, we need structured and scalable processes that can be digitalised and automated. Implementing Hailey has been a strategic investment for the entire company, not just a tool to make HR work more efficient,” says Helena Tönne.

Previously, HR tasks at Mips were managed using Excel and other manual tools – an approach that became increasingly unsustainable as the company grew. Helena quickly realised that a modern, user-friendly HR system would not only streamline her work but also provide managers and employees with the support needed to meet future demands.

User-friendliness key to quick adoption

When choosing Hailey, Helena prioritised two things: GDPR compliance and user-friendliness.

“We wanted a system so intuitive that everyone would immediately understand how to use it. A low threshold is essential to get managers and employees on board straight away.”

She explains that Hailey quickly became a natural part of daily operations:

“Our employees find the system easy to use, and many appreciate how it guides them through various processes. The implementation went surprisingly smoothly, and I received great support from Hailey’s team.”

Since Helena Helena was the only one handling the implementation, simplicity and efficiency were particularly important. She also emphasises the need for strong management support to ensure the success of new ways of working.

Step-by-step success

Mips opted for a gradual implementation of Hailey to ensure a positive experience.

“It’s good to start small and introduce different processes step by step. Each new process we add to the platform feels like a valuable tool rather than just another system to learn.”

Helena highlights that the company’s openness to change has been a key factor in the project’s success:

“We’re a company where most people are curious about new initiatives, which makes a big difference when introducing something new.”

Helena highlights the key advantages of using Hailey:

Traceability
“It’s great to be able to easily go back and find historical data without searching through old folders. Everything is gathered in one system.”

Overview
“For managers, it’s a huge improvement. Information was previously stored in different places. When we handled salary reviews in Hailey, it was a massive improvement compared to password-protected Excel files – a real game-changer!”

Reporting
“With Hailey, I can quickly generate the key metrics we need for things like our sustainability report, saving an enormous amount of time.”
